Where The Pancakes Are: The New Brunch Destination

We found them! The most amazing pancakes for pancake fans in the search for THE brunch spot, or a place to eat them at any time of day…

Since the beginning of October, the Flat Iron Square in Bermondsey has welcomed a cool newbie, tucked into the arcade, Where The Pancakes Are. The restaurant was started by Dutch Patricia Trijbits, who spent time in Paris and California before moving with her family to London.

We love: the super cozy and dreamy decor by design agency Overtreders-W, with light woods, dusty pinks, hanging plants and a white felt wall.

To devour: the piles of moist buttermilk pancakes, in a savoury (eggs Benedict or a new take on the English Breakfast) or sweet version (chocolate banana, red fruits compote-cream-meringue). And the mini versions to bring your tribe on the weekend (£4.50).

You’ll get California vibes with the Dutch baby, a type of oven made pancake delivered in a posh casserole. We have a slight weakness for the savoury version with cheese, thyme and rosemary.

What to drink with pancakes? Inspired by the Frenchie combo of crepes and cider, the menu has lovely artisanal ciders from both sides of the Channel as well as from Australia.

Come for an aperitif: the little buckwheat blinis with salmon dip/horseradish or goat cheese/grapes, washed down with a glass of Prosecco.

Pancakes : £5.50 to £10.50

Opening hours:  Monday- Tuesday 8am to 4pm, Wednesday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 8pm, Sunday 9am to 4pm
