The Distillery: The New Paradise for Gin Lovers

Five years ago, four adventurous former bartenders (Ged, Jake, Paul and Tom) opened The Ginstitute under an 19th century building and launched their artisanal gin brand, Portobello Road Gin, immediately afterward.

This year, they decided to kick it up a notch with the opening of a four story temple on Portobello Road, the first London hotel by the group.

Super unique: after a three hour course, you learn everything about the British history of spirits, you eat more than is necessary, and of course, cherry on top, you create your own concoction to take home with you, with a bit of help from the house experts (£110).

The trendy drink: sip on a classic Gin & Tonic in the bar of the timeless Resting Room or be adventurous and try a crazier option, like the vodka distilled with a base of avocado and olive oil.

For a Spanish evening: head to GinTonica upstairs to munch on tapas concocted by chef Greg Lewis (Bellota ham, cheese croquetas, prawns….£2.90- £18.50) and by picking your way through the hundred references on the menu, served in large balloon glasses, like in Spain.

Prolong the evening: by reserving one of the three rooms in an updated 1950s decor, and by drinking, with moderation, one of the freshly-prepared cocktails from the minibar, and playing vinyls selected by the unforgettable Rough Trade.

The Resting Room: Open Monday to Saturday 11am to midnight, Sunday 11am to 11pm.

GinTonica: Open Monday to Saturday from midnight to 1am, Sunday 12pm to midnight.

Rooms from £150, breakfast included.
