The Curtain: the New York Style Hotel-Restaurant That is Igniting Shoreditch

Last summer, the trendiest New York hotelier, Michael Achenbaum, raised the curtain on his first long-awaited London project in Shoreditch: The Curtain. A luxury hotel, yes, but not just that.  Do It takes you on the behind the scenes tour

A Ultra Sleek Hotel

In the 120 rooms, it's the industrial touches- very Manhattan- that one notices above the rest, concieved under the eye of architects Duncan Miller Ullman in the spirit of the neighbourhood.  We love to snuggle up in the marble bathrooms and bask in the chaise longue on the terraces of the suites that look over East London.

Red Rooster: A Soulful Ambiance Like in Harlem

For a fantastic meal and a great place to shake your booty, the star chef Marcus Samuelsson is in the house with his iconic restaurant Red Rooster, that has crossed the Atlantic.  On the menu of this offshoot in the ground floor- we love the little bites of comfot food and chicken in all its forms:  soft waffle with fried chicken, dowsed in maple syrup (£16), and the roasted half chicken with succotash of beans and corn, fries and red mole (£19).

Six days of the week, live concerts take place to give a fab ambiance to the place with jazz, funk or afrobeat gigs.  Sundays, brunch takes place in three session of gospel from the House Gospel Choir (12.15, 2pm, 3.30pm).  A great way to groove along with your scrambled eggs with chorizo and jalapeno (£16)!

In your glasses, it's the New York team from Trash Tiki that mixes the sophisticated cocktails in hommage to artists from the renaissance of Harlem, the golden period of Africian-American culture between the two wars.  Our fave:  The Lindy Hop Sour with bourbon and blood orange (£9).

Tienda Roosteria: The Mexicool Touch

On the ground level, head to Tiendra Roosteria from lunch until the wee hours:  definitely try the guacamole (£5), before diving into the Baja style tacos or the pork al pastor (£4.50), while sipping a frozita (tequila and negroni, £9) or an agua fresca with lime and hibiscus (£5).  Short on time?  Leave with your lunchbox for the day tucked under your arm (£10), to munch infront of your computer.

The best plan:  every Tuesday, we jump on the best deal- three tacos and a Pacifico beer for £10.

A Very Private Club

But of course, The Curtain will gather all the creatives of the neighbourhood with its member's club, for private networking from evening until morning.  Soho House, watch out!

Among the goodies:  access to the superb rooftop, the Lido brasserie with Mediterranean flavours, the Marocian pool overlooking the skyline of Shoreditch.  The absolute luxury?  The pool is heated and the glass rooftop is retractable.  You can even take advantage of the pool in February, before diving into the gigantic breakfast buffet (£17) or munching a mozzererlla, aubergine and licorace from chef Mauro di Leo.

A cozy night in:  head to the Screening Room for a totally comfy cinema night with 35 friends and your own cocktail bar.

Finally, for a totally exclusive last drink of the night, head to Billy's Bar, in front of the fire.
