The Camberwell Arms: Stylish Gastro Pub

When English gastronomy takes you by the arms, go for it.  The hangout of South London's foodies and trendy chefs, the restaurant reveals iself in a charming street window.  The decor is industrial chic, with wooden benches and a chimney warming the atmosphere.  On the stovetops in the open kitchen, you'll find a team lead by Mike Davies, who himself was the head of the Anchor & Hope in Waterloo and also of the unmissable Frank's Cafe.

If the Sunday roast is a must in the neighbourhood, it would be sad to deprive yourself of the other items on the menu for lunch and dinner.  We went on a Monday evening, and, proof of its success, the place never got empty- iimpressive, on a Monday.

On the plate, only seasonal products cooked by the master hands of Mike Davies team:  artichokes cooked to perfection on mounds of burrata, mussels in their juice with a touch of garlic, black raddish seasoned with sesame, fine slices of lamb braised and, absolute must, a gratin of aubergine.  The plates come out one after one, but the hunger never ceases!  To wash down this gorgeousness, beers and a wine menu that is nothing to be embarrased by.

We like to go:  all alone, with a date or with a group; The Camberwell Arms welcomes all types.

We love: the service, attentioned but not cerimonious, that serves water and bread from the minute we sit down.  And talking about the bread....a focaccia generously drizzled with olive oil.

Open Monday 5pm- 11pm, Tuesday- Thursday 11am- 11pm, Friday and Saturday 11am- 12pm, Sunday 12pm- 10.30pm
