Nuala: The New Irish Spot

Nuala is the spot where everyone is flocking-- the one with the flamboyante-haired mermaid logo and with the pretty Irish name.

After having worked at other London hotspots (St John’s Bread & Wine, Chiltern Firehouse…), the Irish chef Niall Davidson put down his knives just before Christmas near Old Street. Alongside Colin McSherry (formerly of Fat Duck, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal), they have chose the best of British products to serve at their new venture.

Snuggle into an uncluttered industrial atmosphere, a bit like a pumped up steakhouse, with round leather banquettes, exposed brick and gorgeous wicker chairs….the ideal spot for savouring the delicate, meaty dishes: crab salad with cucumber bouillon (£9); wood-oven roasted pumpkin with Mull Island cheddar and green sauce (£15); grilled rabbit with salt crusted celery and mustard (£17); Scottish sirloin of beef with famous stout sauce to share (£70)....but the true star of the menu is the humble potato in all its forms!

Impossible to pass up the addictive potato puree (£3.50) and the gratin dauphinois pimped up with lamb stock (£4). Order up a few orders of each before cracking for the smoked chocolate mousse and coffee (£5.50). Beware, novices, Nuala doesn’t stop there!

Head to the lower level to discover the secret side of Nuala: the underground Irish bar, super well equipped, with a long mahogany bar counter and vintage photos. From 5pm, live concerts take place alongside an exploration of their gigantic collection of whiskeys.

Open Monday to Friday 12pm to 3pm, 5.30pm to 10pm, Saturday 5.30pm to 10pm
