London Mezcal Week: September's Mexicool Festival

Since the Mexican craze has arrived in London earlier this year (for our three not-to-be-missed address, click here), Mezcal is in everyone’s glass. Tequila’s trendy cousin, this distilled, smoked, agave-based spirit is the highlight of a week-long festival dedicated just to it.

Behind the idea is a duo of Londoners: the founders of mezcal brands Quiquiriqu (Melanie Symond) and Dangerous Don (Thea Cummings) have paired up to highlight the iconic beverage from the Oaxaco region.

On the program for this second edition: bespoke cocktails, pop-up dinners, fiestas, discussions and two days of tasting for the final event. A roundup of key events for the super full week include:

An insider’s dinner, like in Oaxaco: we knew about Edson Diaz-Fuentes in Shoreditch, where his crazy-good Mexican restaurant closed after a few months. Good news, Santo Remedio reopened its doors in London Bridge in 2017 and will be happy to host you for an unboring tasting menu with a mezcal theme. Wait to drool over the four course Mexican dinner inspired by the uber-gourmet Oaxaco region, with mezcal tastings by Corte Vetusto.

Monday, 10 September at 7pm, £55 for the menu with mezcal tasting.

Mezcal takes to the water:  direction Hackney Wick!  Jump on board our fave boat, Alfred LeRoy, for a super trendy cruise across Hackney.  The perfect excuse to take advantage of the last rays of sun in an open air boat, while sipping a mezcal cocktail made especially for the occasion.

From Wednesday 12 September to Friday 14 September from 6.45pm to 9pm, £26 per person with a cocktail included.

It's a festival:  head to Shoreditch to taste the biggest selection of mezcals ever presented in the UK and meet the producers.  The Mexican cantine from Bournemouth, Ojo Rojo, is even leaving it's Dorset post to take over the bar from 4pm every day.

Friday 14 and Saturday 15 September 2018, from 1pm to midnight.  Free entry.  Two hour long tastings from 1pm to 7pm, £25

Salud!

From 10- 15 September 2018, reservations for the various events online.
